Labor Day Weekend

Hi Friends,

Back to the grind after five days off. We went to Omaha to visit Ben's sister Maggie and her husband Andy. They have two kids and a lovely new home that they shared with us for three days and nights. It was a nice visit. Got a little shopping in (mostly window shopping) with the girls and a trip to the zoo. What a great zoo they have there. My favorite part was the gorillas. They seem to have so much going on in their heads. You can see the wheels turning. I always feel so bad for the animals in the zoo but other than that it was great fun for the kids. Brody just loved following his older cousin around. We asked him what his favorite part of our trip was and he said it was Drew's Lego collection ;) Drew did such a great job sharing, too. Miss Sophia is quite the character. She and Owen seemed to try to fight for the "baby" role since they are both the youngest in the family. Owen grabbed her hair a few times and she expressed her dissatisfaction with him playing with her toys a few times. All settled after the first day or so. Kind of comical ;) All of the kids had fun with the kittens. Owen had too much fun with them. He doesn't seem to understand that they're alive!

I thought I would also mention that we're having family photos taken on October 9th. If you're reading this and you aren't sure I have your address but would like a Christmas card with our picture please send me your address to jenstam8@gmail.com and I can send you one. Well, probably would have sent you one anyhow, but just to be on the safe side, send me your address so I can make sure my address book is up to date.

I can't believe fall is already upon us. It's so chilly in the morning now. The weather is so nice during the day but it reminds me of what's to come. I'm not really ready to say goodbye to my flowers for the winter ): I really enjoy being able to step outside and tend to all of my flowers every day. I'm not a fan of winter. This adds to my dream of living in Hawaii someday! Love it there! Maybe I wouldn't be as appreciative of my flowers though, if I knew they would always be there. Gives me something to appreciate, I guess. However, I really am itching to get a vacation planned again soon. I'm always looking for deals!

Looking forward to fall though, don't get me wrong! Football, chilly, sweatshirts, bonfires for warmth, hot baths, leaves changing. ALL of it I love! Best time of year (other than my dead flowers :) Speaking of...Vikes kick off the real season this Sunday at 3:15 CST. So excited but we have to DVR the game. I will have to stay off the internet. I don't want to know who wins until we're able to sit down and watch it. Lots going on this Sunday and it all just so happens to be when the game is on. Boo! Oh well...thank God for DVR!

Summer starts her Bella Voce practice this Sunday at 5, right after she has a meeting for confirmation (late confirmation might I add). I cannot wait to hear her sing in the choir this Christmas. I've heard they have a fantastic choir and I'm proud that she made it in! Another thing to look forward to!

That's about it for now. Send me your address!

Lots of love!

My first blog

I've always wanted to create a blog and write about anything and everything, from random thoughts to significant happenings in our family. So, here is my attempt at just that. It is my hope that nothing major or significant will ever be the reason for a post, but we will see where this blogging road leads us. Time is a significant factor, with me working full time, having four teen girls and two rambunctious little guys and then of course, hubby working full time an hour and a half away (three hour driving time each day!) and being a student on top of that! Makes me tired just thinking about it!

So let's see. Nothing major going on right now. Chelsey and Summer both started college courses at RCTC. Chelsey is starting her second year there and Summer is doing Post Secondary Education (as a Senior at Century High School). Alexa is starting 9th grade at Century. A big high schooler now! Brooke is in 7th grade at Kellogg Middle School. They are typical teen girls who can be very enjoyable and happy one moment and a ball of emotions the next. Makes life VERY interesting! In general, they are good girls who I think will do well in life.

Brody is such an imaginative little boy. He's 4 now and just last night he asked me to be a mama dinosaur and sit on my baby dinosaur egg! My "baby dinosaur egg" was Brody wrapped in a blanket making odd baby dinosaur noises. In a matter of minutes, he went from being a baby dinosaur egg, to a baby dinosaur who needed some extra special mama dinosaur cuddles and then he turned into a ferocious big dinosaur! But of course, then we had to do the same thing all over again because it was much more fun to be a baby dinosaur who needed extra special mama dinosaur cuddles ;) Oh, the life of little boys! Owen is such a stinker! He's 21 months old and is a brut! He goes, goes, goes until he's ready for "nigh nigh" and then wants cuddles, mama's hair and mama's shirt and of course his "dat" which is his paci. The plan is to take that away at 2 (in November). He only gets "dat" when he sleeps...so not too bad. We are also in the process of trying to introduce potty training. He seems somewhat interested. Hoping to have that accomplished around his 2nd birthday.

Ben and I are taking the Catholic Classes at St. Francis. I find it refreshing and very interesting! I was born and raised Catholic but had not been practicing until early May. It has been a good thing for our family. The kids start their classes in a few weeks. We will all have First Communion and Confirmation around Easter in the spring. Ben and I will always have our vows validated at some point before that happens. If anything, it's a very interesting history lesson. I also feel it has been a nice positive thing for our marriage and our family.

Lots and lots of thoughts...most not appropriate for this beginner blog so will wait  for those random thoughts. No specific intention to this blog other than just keeping friends and family updated and also using as a place to "journal" things I want to remember and maybe want others to be aware of.

More to come...
